Anju Dodiya

L’artiste

Anju Dodiya est née en 1964 à Bombay en Inde, où elle vit et travaille. Ses peintures, actes de rébellion et d’exorcisme, explorent sous la forme de l’autoportrait les conflits entre intériorité et réalité extérieure. L’artiste réactualise des sources historiques aussi variées que les miniatures indiennes, les tapisseries médiévales françaises ou les photos de journaux. Sa peinture frappe par le contraste entre l’intensité dramatique des sujets et les subtilités de la réalisation.

La Biennale souhaite réveiller l’esprit cosmopolite de la métropole moderne de Kochi et son passé mythique, Muziris. Cette rencontre avec l’art contemporain international en Inde permet de présenter et de débattre des nouvelles esthétiques et expériences artistiques indiennes et internationales, en rendant possible le dialogue entre les artistes, les commissaires et le public.
