Indian artiste Jitish Kallat will be part of The Setouchi Triennale, a contemporary art festival taking place on multiple islands of Japan’s Seto Inland Sea (separating Honshu and Shikoku, two of Japan’s main islands).
AUSTRIA
Installed in a large roundabout on an expressway at Stockerau, north of Vienna, Here After Here After Here (2012-2015) takes the form of a mammoth loop made of extended highway signage that seems to continue infinitely and coil within. Kallat draws together a confluence of myriad references to arrive at this compelling form, amongst them the mythic symbol of ouroboros, ancient eternal knots, alchemical diagrams and sacred geometry.
ART GALLERY NEW SOUTH WALES, SYDNEY
Large-scale work Public notice 2 (2007) by Indian artist Jitish Kallat is being installed at the Art Gallery of NSW in Sydney, in an exhibition of works from Gene and Brian Sherman’s Asian art collection, until October 5.
The work renders Gandhi’s historic speech calling for non-violence and civil disobedience before the famous Salt March in 1930 – in its entirety, letter by letter. Each letter appears to be made from bone, as though Kallat has exhumed these words from their historical resting place. As Kallat says: ‘In today’s terror-infected world, where wars against terror are fought at prime television time, voices such as Gandhi’s stare back at us like discarded relics.’

KOCHI-MUZIRIS BIENNALE, INDIA
2014 Kochi – November – 2013: The Hon. Mayor of Cochin, Mr. Tony Chammany, today officially declared the internationally acclaimed Indian artist, Jitish Kallat as the curator of Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2014. Mr. Bose Krishnamachari, President of the Kochi Biennale Foundation, opened up the proceedings and thanked the State Government, the local bodies and the local and international art communities for their support. He gave a brief overview of what India’s first Biennale meant to the state and to the nation. He said, “ Kochi-Muziris Biennale is one of the largest contemporary art events of its kind in India and it’s the second largest running Biennale in the world after the Venice Biennale.” (…)
BUSAN BIENNALE, KOREA
From September 20th 2014 to November 22th 2014 Galerie Templon is proud to announce artists Philippe Cognée, Gérard Garouste, Jitish Kallat and Chiharu Shiota’s participation to the 2014 Busan Biennale (September 20 – November 22) in Korea. Entitled Inhabiting the world,this edition gathers around 160 artists from 30 countries, with a main exhibition, two special exhibitions, diverse academic programs international exchange events and participatory events. Under the direction of Olivier Kaeppelin, the main exhibition focuses on the roles of art and artists in aworld of permanent state of economic, ecological and geo-political uncertainty. Inhabiting the world intends to explore the extraordinary constellation of artistic responses to the contemporary situations.
