ATUL DODIYA, 7000 MUSEUMS : A PROJECT FOR THE REPUBLIC OF INDIA,  DR. BHAU DAJI LAD MUMBAI CITY MUSEUM

DR. BHAU DAJI LAD MUSEE DE LA VILLE DE MUMBAI

The exhibition 7000 Museums is a continuation of the Museum’s curatorial series ‘Engaging Tradition’ which encourages contemporary artists to engage with the Museum’s history and collection. Through his watercolours and oil painting, exhibited in a dialogue with varied conceptual frameworks from the Museum’s collection, Atul Dodiya humorously adresses ideas of local cultural representation as well as the semantics of museums and museum displays. His works also reference historical events from the freedom struggle interrupted by moments of art history.

Jim Dine
JIM DINE, CONTE DE FéES, DE LA TRADITION à LA MODERNITé, PALAIS LUMIèRE EVIAN

PALAIS LUMIERE EVIAN

Bringing together 350 ancient and contemporary works, the Palais Lumière offers an initiatory journey through the extra-ordinary world of fairytales, which keeps on stimulating contemporary creators – writers, artists, film makers. Far from the enchanting image of the Walt Disney movie, Jim Dine returns to the original tale by Carlo Collodi and its psychological dimension. The artist questions the relationship between childhood and the work of involuntary artistic creation. James Casebere
JAMES CASEBERE – SCALES AND DIMENSIONS

CORNELL UNIVERSITY, ITHAKA, USA

From August 24th to September 20th 2014 Scales and Dimensions presents a broad interdisciplinary practice joining art and architecture. Rarely does artist James Casebere reveal the scale models that contribute to the “work,” defined as the photograph. This exhibit is uniquely organized to engage students and faculty in the creative process behind the work. The show reveals the artistry of how modeling is handled in the creation of an image conceptualized from specific vantage points.John Hartell Gallery will feature Casebere’s recent work, mostly from the Landscape with Houses (Dutchess County) series featuring several very large framed photographs and, unusually, a display of the corresponding scale models that were used to create the photographs. Olive Tjaden Gallery will exhibit highlights of other projects, including pieces from his Vaulted Corridor, Tunnel, Hallway, and Spanish Bath series. (…)
