This catalogue is released on the occasion of the co-hosted exhibition The Mitt Paintings 1988-1993 by Jules Olitski in a bilingual edition, with an essay by Jim Walsh and an illustrated chronology by Alex Grimley.
‘Now, as I write this at the end of July 2024, I have regained my balance and remember how much better these Mitt paintings looked to me in June on that visit to Vermont, like water in the desert. Thirty-five years after their creation, the Mitt paintings reveal more indomitable spirit than ever.
Today the world may be ready to catch up with them.‘
Jim Walsh
