NDOX—GLINT
Alioune Diagne’s solo show Ndox—Glint opens on September 16, 2023 at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen.
Canoes, fishermen and banks of Senegal inhabit the powerfully colored canvases of Alioune Diagne. From his native country, he has always been attracted to the banks of the Senegal and Gambia rivers, capturing the animation and energy of the scenes of life that he observes.
“This allows me to illustrate in an underlying way the problems of migration, overfishing, water pollution but also the courage of anonymous men living in difficult conditions to provide the country with fish”, underlines Alioune Diagne who he is known on the international scene from Dakar to Paris, and who will represent Senegal at the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024.
His paintings offer a striking echo to the works of the great impressionist masters, through their movement and technique. In response to the touches of color of Monet or Sisley, the artist offers a set of abstract signs which form silhouettes and sensations. A connection to discover!
Born in 1985 in Kaffrine, Senegal, Alioune Diagne lives and works in Senegal. After studying at the Dakar École des Beaux-Arts in 2008, Alioune Diagne developed an imaginary script as a universal language and intimate account of fragments of his life in Dakar and on his travels. A socially engaged artist, he opens the door to a deep-seated exploration of the major challenges facing the world today: ecology, the place of women in society, racism and the notions of transmission and heritage. In April 2024 the artist had the honour of representing his country on the Senegalese pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale international art exhibition with the project Bokk - Bounds. He has been represented by Galerie Templon since 2022.
